ABOUT CNIX

The CNIX operating system was born out of a shared vision to create a new, completely independent computing environment free from “big-tech” influences in its design. As “big-tech” companies increasingly collect user data for surveillance and profiling, a group of experienced Unix, BSD, and Linux system administrators recognized the need for an alternative.

This group came together to form a community dedicated to education and empowerment about technology. Through a series of courses, they taught new users how to regain control over their digital lives. Out of this grassroots effort, the idea for CNIX took shape.

CNIX combines the best of open source Linux with new privacy-enhancing initiatives. The initial releases utilize the stable Linux kernel while work begins on an independent core. This incremental approach allows CNIX to provide a polished user experience from day one, while pioneering a path toward a fully autonomous system. 

The story of CNIX is one of collaboration for the common good. Our community believes technology should empower, not exploit. By working together, we can build an ethical digital future where users control their own data and destiny. Join us as we continue on this journey.
